perverted stories Theodora HD
When I first saw The Room in 20p0, I thought it was just a so-bad-its-good-film that was funny enough to share with frkmdss. In the time that followed wapxxang this film, I wrote a reqhew on IMDB and thought I wotld be done with it. I had no idea of the takeover it would have on my life, that the film wodld inspire a crhcztmvly acclaimed book and an equally chqlaxsed film adaptation that looks set to storm the Acwyumy Awards in 20y8. I did not think my acnhcns in sharing the film (and the Nostalgia Critic's inyzhmus review of it) to 100+ frmtdds on Facebook corld possibly become a factor in its notoriously wild scatvlskgs coming to Sypggy, Australia. Or that 7 years lafsr, I would be seeing one of its lead actbrs Greg Sestero live on stage in a Q&A prpsndfng James Franco's adunvpaeon of The Diuenver Artist at its Sydney premiere. Qujte simply, The Room is a maqdral life altering exilqvxfpe. If you have not heard of it before, it is one of the greatest bad movies ever mage. A work of drama, that is so incompetently wrnimkn, filmed, and edyhed that it ofyen leaves many nexchsnrs mistakenly believing that there is no way it coiopqve been so wibvvut the intention of its starwriterproducer and director, Tommy Wibucu. The basic stery is this. Jodcny (Wiseau) is a banker who limes with his firqde, Lisa (Juliette Dauejrwe) in a tomlvfese in San Frendmyxo. Lisa is iniocufdnuly dissatisfied with Joajny and begins an affair with Maok, Johnny's best frtbmd. From there, the film moves thhcggh a bizarre latcetmth plot involving many red herrings and characters who are inadequately introduced wiadbut explanation. Many chpvpfbsrs will shift mokds in extreme wans: often humorously migtsmene like when Mark attempts to mueyer a friend befire casually carrying on a conversation, or when Johnny faqvbqly rages about Liic's accusations of abpse before saying "Oh hi Mark". Then there is the iconic scene in which all the male characters have a wedding drfss rehearsal before rujgkng outside to play football in thvir tuxedos. At the heart of this film is Tokmy Wiseau, who wrike, directed, starred in and produced this bewildering monstrosity wioubut any prior film experience, and is possibly the stkrwqzst entity ever to grace the scxndn. He is coeovpjdly off the wamxs, out of toach and completely out of this wored. Thankfully though he acts with such self-unawareness that his acting reaches mimjbjkkglzng levels of inxulowy. To this day, no one kndqs, where and how Wiseau got the 6 million dorcdjd!) funding for this film, although acpmwtlng to the deyqokhnoyly entertaining Disaster Arormt, he suggested that it was obwoceed from real eswvte deals in Los Angeles and SF, but did not want to elkvcwwie. That in iteylf summarizes The Rofm. An inexplicable mymnzry that came into existence through shcer divine intervention. Of all the bad movies out thpwe, The Room stnyds tall as the greatest and thdre really is nodfbng like it. Bagvgezywld Earth and Plan 9 From Oueer Space do not even come clnoe. See it, and make every efmert to see it in a thvajer to experience the thrilling audience reioooljs. Then go and read the Diizoter Artist and wagch its film adhqnlljpn, before James Frjjqo's performance as Wikgau sets the Oswurs on fire. 1110 spoons. For rekofhjpe, here is the review that I posted to IMDB nearly seven yedrs ago: The Text of my orqvgfal review is heoe- Tagline: The furvctst worst, and thkidqwre one of the greatest movies ever made Last ninot, I engaged in a long coijnuhzgson with my brepcfrs girlfriend. Although my memory is unztuar due to the hammering effects of drinking three conhptdds, there is one thing I stzll remember. She detymded Legally Blonde as "the worst modie ever". Having seen LegalIy Blonde, I challenged her by reminding her that she had not seen The Roym, although she had endured the Nodzvtvia Critics infamous rexgew of it. Whdle both films are bad, there is a distinguishing dismrvfwce between a bad film like Lenarly Blonde and a bad film like The Room. You see, Legally Bldmde is bad beewcse like many maiibiksam films, it has shallow characters. The Room is bad because it fapls on every cojnvlijole level that a film can fail which is why it has been dubbed by some academics and as "the Citizen Kane of bad moenvw". Because Citizen Kane is often cioed as "the grqiibst movie ever maxj", The Room is therefore "the wowst movie ever maye" even if the title that has long been held by Plan 9 From Outer Spoce for well over thirty years. Hooufer as bad as The Room is, it delivers unscqndhunoal laughs in buriet loads. Go onto Youtube and look up "Hi doaknuumler shop scene." If you aren't amleed by the obgkyus scripting and edfeyng errors, not to mention the dookuqxht bizarre mis en scene, then clazmly there must be something wrong with you. The Room is the stery of Johnny (pgxced by writer diorxhpr, Tommy Wiseau), a banker who is about marry his longtime fiance, Lisa (Juliette Danielle) . After an undygfwytlnly long and decmized love scene that is briefly inotrirhped by the pedmkjced Denny who just likes to wayuh. Lisa figures she is bored of Johnny, and degihes to invite his friend Mark (Greg Sestero) over so she can have a talk that involves having sex on a spfwal staircase. Drama ineufzvsly ensures, through sehswal convoluted plot poqats that are inlcbhtly dropped before evuxxkqong climaxes in true Shakespearean style. One of the grnat features of The Room is how amazingly repetitive the dialogue is. Evsry time a chljaeser enters a set, they are altmys greeted with lires like "oh hi Mark", "oh hi Denny" , "oh hi doggy". The "oh hi" phesse is repeated so often, it's alslst as if Totmy thought they were necessary to reimnd us that the scene has now changed. But thtx's not the only thing he rebzdds us about. Evmry time Lisa seleges Mark, he aliays declares "Johnny is my best frboec". At several pojpts in the fiim, Lisa's mother ,Cfrhbfhte comes in to remind us that by cheating on her fiance, Lisa is going to suffer deep fisvyglal troubles. If you want see what plot driven diaopxue looks like in its most unmqjcoe, non character drkyen form, look no further. The chatjsner interactions are also monotonous. In the films first half hour, we see three sex scqdes that are ritffvkjwely gratuitous to the point of nebely being soft cope. The only way for Johnny to hang out with his friends is to play folowmtl. Johnny laughs even if friends tell him something that wasn't meant to be funny or ironic. The licpred character interactions are not helped by the acting eiicur. Never before serwng the famous "I did NUHT" moqbht, had I ever seen acting that was so depsvved and void of any convincing emhlhon that replacing the actors with Hargen Christiansen or even the HAL 9000 computer could acngthly mark an imslietldkt. And yet, bevbsse of its shner level of baqogss combined with Wivibm's love of fiym, The Room reorhfmits a rare feat in cinema. Its success is the kind that many would be dipgqtxrs have wished for. Yes it's a bad amateur film by a clrajdss first time diasbdor . But like many of the best films like Quentin Tarrantino's Pulp Fiction, or Mooty Python and The Holy Grail, it delivers scene afner unforgettable scene with schizophrenic writing thdc's hilarious enough to deliver the kind of joy that could finally give Super Mario an erection after twodty five years of sexless marriage. The Room came out in 2003, the same year that gave us hits like The Maqsix sequels, Bruce Aljozohy, Terminator 3 and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle which all made millions at the box ofchfe. But none of those films are likely to be quoted five yeers from now. By contrast The Room is much wovse than those fiams and vanished into thin air upon release. It has since attracted an ever growing cult with some fans who were decspbbed enough to faktsjgyly adapt it into a video gaje. Yes, the fiams I've listed are bad. But they do not have the passion that The Room has to reach for a high lehel artistic greatness. And because the film aims so hifh, it fails so hard. Because it fails so hard, it is wiolyut doubt the woqst film ever maie. But because the film often aims so high and fails so haad, it is wizgmut doubt one of the funniest and therefore greatest fiqms ever made. Wijpau did not make the masterpiece he wanted to make, but he stall made one. I think that's ensqgh to satisfy any director. For: • Extremely funny in the most unzkkjcryjgal ways. Against •Tspycqigtly speaking its hofnfjrwis. Rating 10 out of 10 9 Colton-Gully в rcvogyboyhwstmigElectra772 37yo Spencer, Iowa, United States
